Halal Mama

Have you seen my recent post on the new Haloodies cooked chicken range? Here are couple of ideas on how we used some of the products.

Cajun Chicken baguettes

Ready sliced chicken breast was just asking to be used in a sandwich! I made these healthy, super-filling baguettes for lunch the other day - Hubby and I liked them so much, that I made them again the following day (although we already used the pack of Cajun Chicken Breast slices, so I put Chargrilled Chicken Mini Fillets in instead).

For 2 baguettes:
  • pack of Haloodies Sliced Cajun Chicken Breast
  • 1 mini gem lettuce
  • 1 tomato
  • 8-10 cucumber slices
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • mayonnaise
Cut the baguettes open, careful not to cut right through. Spread a little bit of mayonnaise on one half, cover with lettuce, sliced tomato and cucumber. Place chicken slices on top (you can warm them up in the oven a little bit, or just use them cold). Mash the avocado and spread on the other half of the baguette. Season with some salt and pepper if needed - I just added a few olives for myself, and sliced jalapenos for Hubby. Carefully close the baguettes (they ended up quite full!) and enjoy.

Southern Fried Chicken wraps

The Southern Fried Chicken from Haloodies is definitely something for the fans of spice. It reminds me of the chicken we sometimes get in one of the town's fast foods, so I chose to use it in wraps.

For 2 wraps:
  • pack of Haloodies Southern Fried Chicken Mini Fillets
  • tortilla wraps
  • 1 mini gem lettuce
  • 1 small onion
  • 1/3 red pepper
  • 1/2 yellow pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • mayonnaise or your other preferred sauce

Slice the onion and both peppers. Heat up a little bit of oil or butter in a frying pan, add the onion and caramelise slightly. Once it starts softening, add the spices and sliced peppers. Cook together until the peppers are soft - unless you prefer a slight crunch to them. Place the lettuce over about 1/3 of the tortilla. Warm up the chicken per instructions on the packet, place on top of the lettuce, and drizzle with your choice of sauce - I went for the mayo to balance the heat a little bit. Add cooked vegetables, and carefully roll the wraps.

I found the Southern Fried chicken a little too spicy for Adam, so here's an option for the younger Haloodies - use the Battered Chicken Bites instead. I also skipped the onions and peppers, knowing that Mr Fussy would just keep spitting them out ;)

Have you tried the Haloodies cooked chicken range yet? Let me know how YOU used them!

Back in 2011 two friends, Imran and Noman, came up with the idea of Halal Food Festival to connect Muslim foodies with halal food businesses. And then they thought "Let's call the halal foodies - HALOODIES!"

I attended that festival in September 2013, and it was the first time when I realised how big the halal scene actually is! We live in majorly Muslim area here, so obviously there's halal food around, but it's mostly Indian/Pakistani and handful of Middle-Eastern places. Oh yeah, and hundreds of "chicken and chips" shops.

Anyway, after the success of the Festival, Imran and Noman realised that the Haloodies needed more than a festival - they wanted fresh and wholesome food, they needed quality meats and poultry in variety of cuts. And with the busy lifestyles, they needed convenience. So the guys created a new halal food brand, called, of course, Haloodies - a range of fresh meat and poultry, conveniently packed and available for delivery right to your door.

OK, I must admit that despite following them since their very beginning, I never actually bought Haloodies meat - purely because at the time they were only stocked in Ocado (now also at Amazon Fresh), and with halal butcher just around the corner it's not exactly my first shopping choice. But now they introduced a brand new cooked chicken range, which is available at larger Tesco stores - yay!

Last weekend we visited London Halal Food Festival - if you follow me on Instagram, you would've seen quite a few of the photos I took on the day.

Three years ago the first Halal Food Festival was born - and of course I had to attend! It was a great opportunity to discover new halal products and restaurants, and really the first event to show how big the halal market was becoming. It was a shame that their next event didn't happen.

But then the guys behind Muslim Lifestyle Show (which we sadly missed this year, as we went to Poland), got in touch saying they're organising a new Halal Food Festival in London this year! What halal blogger would miss that?

Hubby had that weekend off, so on Saturday we all got to the Tobacco Dock in London for halal foodie extravaganza! The Festival started at 11:00, so when we finally got there around midday it was packed with people - you could see many families, like us, coming for a fun and food-filled family day out in London.

(...) "Be grateful to Allah." And whoever is grateful, is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favour] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
(31:12)

So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
(2:152)

(...) Thus do We reward he who is grateful.
(54:35)

...

And so on - we are constantly reminded in the Quran to be grateful to Allah. But do we actually do that?

With our busy lives we probably spend the time worrying about the future, about getting things done, about finding a way to fulfil our daily needs. We might be taking things for granted, and rarely stop to think about what we actually have.

Team AYEINA came up with a great solution, for anyone to stop and count their blessings - a mini Gratitude Journal to be filled daily.
