Halal Mama

When Fozia from Muslim Mummy came up with a new monthly gratitude series, I was all like "Yeah, great stuff! Easy blog post idea!"

Is it easy though?

I suppose there is so much stuff in life we all should be grateful for, but come to actually list them, it's hard. It's kind of easier to concentrate on the bad stuff that happens, isn't it? (Especially when 3 out of 4 of us are down with a flu!)

So I had to have a good think - what AM I grateful this month? As hard as it actually was, I came up with 5 things:

  • For ability to breastfeed Aminah. I struggled with Adam, and I probably gave up too easily. I've had more support this time, and it's going really well. she's putting on weight nicely, and it seems to work wonders for her overall health - even when the rest of us were down with colds or flu, Alhamdulillah she hasn't suffered with more than a tiny bit of blocked nose.
  • For my husband, who is just as moody as me sometimes, but loves us and looks after us. You know what best tells me he loves me? We're both supposed to be trying to lose weight, but he brought me chocolate when I was feeling ill :D
  • For Adam forming friendships. He's always been quite sociable, even in nursery he started remembering names of his classmates and had some favourites. But recently he and other Polish-Pakistani boy really hit it off and the playdates started. Luckily the boy's mum and I get along pretty well too ;)
  • For being able to visit Pakistan. Yes, we have my brother-in-law's wedding coming up, so you'll see plenty about that here ;) Actually I've always dreamed about visiting India (well, mostly for Taj Mahal I suppose), but Pakistan is close enough so I suppose I can tick that off my bucket list lol!
  • For the online communities. Because motherhood can be lonely, when everyone you used to hang out with is still childless. Friendships change, some fade away. But there are others like me, all over the world, feeling the same way. And thanks to social media we connect. And it's not so lonely any more ❤

And you, do you ever stop to think what you're grateful for?

Yeah, I know it's already the 4th of January and I'm slightly late to the party. But anyway, happy new year!

Everyone's recently been reflecting on 2017, on everything that's happened over the year. For me it was pretty uneventful - I spent the majority of it pregnant. And because I wasn't feeling great pretty much all the way through this pregnancy, I totally neglected the blog, missed out on events like the Muslim Lifestyle Show and Halal Food Festival... Well, I had all those plans to grow my blog and basically they went to pot. But I had my gorgeous little girl at the end of it, so I can't say it was all wasted ♡

These were apparently my most 'liked' Instagram photos of 2017, and obviously Aminah took all the glory - but then, she's pretty much what my year's been about.

As for 2018? Who knows.

I'm not making any resolutions, like losing weight or something, because I know I probably won't stick to them (although it would indeed be nice to shape that post-baby body a bit!). There are some things I'd like to do or achieve, but I found that if I share my plans with people, they always go down the pan. But I definitely want to commit to the blog, properly. I have some goals in mind, and once I work out a proper plan to achieve them, I'm ready to conquer the world ;)

All I can do for now is to whip out my notebook, start planning and hope for the best!

Are you excited for the whole new year ahead?
